Developed specifically for the Civil Air Patrol, the PMA7000CAP is a modified version of the PMA7000M-S. To facilitate the special requirements of the CAP, the PMA7000CAP has removed the wireless telephone capability of the original PMA7000M-S and has added more Split Mode capability and Push to Talk Intercom mode.
Instead of the PMA7000M-S two split mode capability (Com1/Com2 and Com 2/1),
the PMA7000M-S has six modes (Com1/2, Com2/1, Com 1/3, Com 3/1, Com2/3, and Com
3/2). When the Swap button is pressed, the com configuration indicated on by the
mic select switch is reversed. See the table below for a detailed
explanation.
| Mic Selector Position | Normal | Swap | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pilot | Copilot | Pilot | Copilot | |
| Com 1 | Com 1 | Com 1 | Com 2 | Com 2 |
| Com 2 | Com 2 | Com 2 | Com 1 | Com 1 |
| Com 3 | Com 3 | Com 3 | No Swap | No Swap |
| Com 1/2 | Com 1 | Com 2 | Com 2 | Com 1 |
| Com 1/3 | Com 1 | Com 3 | Com 3 | Com 1 |
| Com 2/3 | Com 2 | Com 3 | Com 3 | Com 2 |
In addition, not only is the automatic VOX circuit called IntelliVox® comes standard, but the ability for Push To Talk Intercom capability for the Pilot and Copilot. This is particularly useful one one of the individuals have to stick their headset into the slip stream of the aircraft. Unlike any VOX circuit, the microphone won't become active until the intercom designated switch is pressed.
Finally, PS Engineering has developed a device that allows the interface on non-aviation radios, such as Motorola mobile radios. This device allows for non-aviation radios to be connected into the audio panel as the Com 3 position. Order PS-Engineering part number 12100 to allow this interconnection.
In addition to the above features, the PMA7000CAP has all the same features of the PMA7000MS (except wireless telephone input):
